達比修有明將對戰藍鳥隊本季拿下20勝的哈普（J.A. Happ），不見面對大賽的緊張，在記者會上反倒說，「這跟例行賽沒什麼不同，看對方的反應，一個一個拿下出局數。」
達比修有去年因進行手肘韌帶置換的湯米約翰手術，即使球隊打進季後賽也無法上場，只能坐在休息室為隊友加油，今天他說，「今年我的身體非常健康，已經準備好了。」
達比修有本季出賽17場，完全沒對上藍鳥隊，雙方上次交手已是2014年。但端看過去數據，達比修有稍居上風，7場對戰拿下3勝2敗、防禦率2.45，合計47.2局飆出61K。
在首戰4打數送出兩安、4打點且擊出過陽春砲的包提斯塔（Jose Bautista），面對達比修18個打數才1支安打、吞下9K；安卡納西翁（Edwin Encarnacion）則16支5、兩轟。
